Meta’s Collaboration with LG

Countering Apple’s Vision Pro with Help from LG

In an effort to maintain dominance in the world of virtual-reality hardware and combat Apple’s threat, CEO Mark Zuckerberg of Meta Platforms is looking to strengthen ties with LG Electronics from South Korea.

During his visit to South Korea, Zuckerberg announced plans for Meta and LG to enhance their collaboration, with a specific focus on integrating artificial intelligence capabilities into devices.

LG believes that by combining Meta’s platform with its own content and service offerings from its TV business, they can create a unique ecosystem within the XR (extended reality) domain, a new focus area for the company.

Although specific details are scarce, reports from Korean media suggest that the partnership may lead to the introduction of a premium version of Meta’s latest Quest headset, potentially competing against Apple’s Vision Pro next year.

Zuckerberg’s recent criticisms of Vision Pro, particularly its high price compared to Meta’s more accessible consumer offerings, indicate his concerns about Apple’s competition. The strategic partnership with LG hints at a deeper fear of the challenges posed by Apple in the virtual reality space.
