U.K. Stocks Rise as FTSE 100 Index Closes Higher

The U.K. stock market experienced gains on Thursday, with the FTSE 100 Index UKX closing up by 1.33% at 7,648.98.

Top Gainers

Among the constituents of the FTSE 100, Ocado Group PLC OCDO saw the largest increase as shares surged by 11.62%. Other notable gainers included Ashtead Group PLC AHT, with a rise of 10.16%, and Entain PLC ENT, which saw an increase of 8.67%.

Croda International PLC CRDA, a chemicals company, and Anglo American PLC AAL, a general mining company, also witnessed significant gains, with their stocks rising by 7.75% and 7.50% respectively.

Top Losers

RELX PLC REL, a publishing company, experienced the largest drop among the FTSE 100 constituents, as its shares declined by 3.34% on Thursday.

Admiral Group PLC ADM, a non-life insurance firm, and Severn Trent PLC SVT, a company in the same industry, both saw a decrease of 3.05% and 1.89% respectively.

BAE Systems PLC BA, a defense equipment/products company, and Pearson PLC PSON, a publishing firm, also registered losses, with their stocks shedding 1.88% and 1.40% respectively.

Currency and Commodity Market Updates

The pound enjoyed a 1.16% increase against the dollar GBPUSD at $1.2765, and a slight 0.07% increase against the euro GBPEUR at €1.1610.

Brent crude BRN00 experienced a notable rise of 3.8%, reaching $77.07. On the other hand, the yield on the 10-year gilt TMBMKGB-10Y fell by 4.520 basis points to 3.788%.
