Solana Disables Durable Nonce Transaction Feature Following Mainnet Outage

Solana Disables Durable Nonce Transaction

Solana blockchain has deactivated the durable nonce transaction function in releases v1.9.28/v1.10.23 to prevent outages following the latest downtime.

The protocol developers have added that durable nonce transactions will not process up to a point where the mitigation has been implemented and the feature reactivated.

Solana was hit by a network outage on June 1, causing the mainnet to stop minting blocks. The fault was brought about by a runtime bug in the durable nonce transaction feature.

The validators began restarting the network after 4 hours and 10 minutes once the durable nonce transactions were disabled. The block production resumed the following day at 9.00 PM UTC.

The execution of durable nonce transactions reportedly shows that a bug in the runtime halted the blockchain from progressing throughout the outage. The malfunction has shown the lack of capacity by Solana to manage durable nonce.
