Optimism Protocol Reports Downtime Amid OP Token Airdrop

Optimism Protocol

Ethereum layer-2 scaling solution Optimism experienced network congestion for about three and a half hours due to high demand for the launch of its awaited airdrop on Wednesday.

Users attempting to collect their airdrop faced failed or delayed transactions with the Optimism developer team promising to increase network capacity.

OP tokens have gone live on multiple centralized exchanges, including Bybit, OKX, Coinbase, MEXC Global, and decentralized exchange Uniswap.

The platform team has announced that it is working to offer more capacity before the official announcement as users rush to receive free tokens ahead of the official announcement.

Optimism announced in April that it was airdropping its new OP governance token through multiple phases and the launch of a decentralized autonomous organization called Optimism Collective.

About 250,000 addresses are set to participate in the airdrop with those eligible, including early subscribers, DAO voters, bridge users, and multi-sig signers.
