Former Google Chief Executive Officer, Eric Schmidt, has been appointed by Chainlink Labs to the role of strategic advisor.

The blockchain network CEO and co-founder Sergey Nazarov says that Schmidt’s experience in global software development would be valuable to the network.

The incoming advisor says that the innovative technology in blockchain had many advantages, but the missing link to the contemporary world remains a hurdle.

The former CEO praised Chainlink labs for its role in the smart contracts space and its revolutionary approach to commerce.

Chainlink currently supports oracle data feeds that power over $80 billion in TVL across various protocols. The blockchain had previously worked with the search engine in the Google Cloud’s Public Datasets program.

Eric Schmidt was the CEO at Google between 2001 and 2011, where he oversaw the firm’s 2004 IPO that set it at a $24 billion valuation. Schmidt has a venture capital firm called Schmidt Futures.
