Ethereum’s Vitalik Buterin notes that security is vital in the network’s plan for scalability with merge, a transition to the proof of stake consensus set for the first half of 2022.
Buterin maintains that Ethereum must be agile and light to attain scalability and the aspect of decentralization.
The second milestone, surge, would scale the ecosystem further, with large bandwidths and speed mostly in the ZK-rollups.
The Ethereum co-founder says that the protocol is halfway in its progress, noting the London hard fork and the Beacon Chain.
He adds that the merge and surge would lead to 80% development progress in a roadmap that is expected to be completed in six years.
Verge is the next phase that would add more users to operate nodes. The subsequent purge and splurge would increase miscellaneous upgrades and eliminate historical data.
Buterin published an article at the start of last month, where he noted that all the blockchains would converge in the future. He listed tools for block verification to happen in a decentralized and censorship-resistant way.
