In an inspiring conversation that highlights resilience, vision, and the power of education, Nigerian-born financial markets trader, Oji Chisimdi, popularly known as Simdiverse, has opened up about her path to becoming one of the continent’s most notable voices in trading.
A former banker turned full-time trader, Chisimdi, has been actively trading for five years, focusing on U.S. indices, gold, and cryptocurrencies. Her journey, as she revealed, began not out of grand ambition but from a place of curiosity.
“My journey to where I am today started off out of curiosity about the markets — how mentally challenging yet profitable it can be — and over time, it turned into a full-blown career,” Chisimdi said.
Today, she plays multiple roles within the trading space — not just as a practitioner but also as a mentor, educator, and consultant. She currently partners with the third-largest cryptocurrency exchange in the world, further cementing her influence in the sector.
Despite her success, the road wasn’t without its challenges. One of her biggest hurdles, she admitted, was learning to manage her emotions and maintain discipline in a volatile market environment.
“The most valuable lesson I learned was that consistency beats intensity. Trading isn’t about chasing big wins — it’s about showing up every day with a clear mind, following your plan, and trusting your edge,” she stated.
Known for her straightforward and effective strategy, Chisimdi describes herself as a “price action trader,” relying primarily on simple tools like trend lines, support, and resistance. Her approach is rooted in discipline and risk management, keeping a steady 1:3 risk-to-reward ratio.
One of her proudest achievements came through education. In partnership with Bybit Exchange, she helped train over a thousand Africans in trading — a feat she says brought her “so much fulfilment.”
Chisimdi is also an advocate for women in the trading industry, believing they often have natural qualities that make them excellent traders.
“I honestly think women tend to make better traders… because women from the beginning of time have been groomed to be more patient and disciplined,” she said, encouraging more women to step into the space with confidence and commitment.
As for her goals, Chisimdi is focused on the long term, stating her ambition to become one of the best analysts and traders out of Africa in the next decade. Her advice to aspiring traders, especially beginners, is to shift their focus from profits to mastery.
“Trading is one of the very few careers that I’ve seen where if you put in the work — like if you put your head down and patiently do the work — you’ll be rewarded exponentially,” she concluded.
With a commitment to growth, education, and empowerment, Oji Chisimdi is not just charting trades — she’s helping chart the future of trading in Africa.
