The European stock market closed on a flat note on Monday. The Stoxx Europe 600 index XX:SXXP ended the day at 465.68, while the FTSE 100 index UK:UKX saw a small gain of 0.19% to reach 7,678.59. The German DAX DX:DAX and the French CAC 40 index FR:PX1 both remained unchanged at 16,190.95 and 7,427.31, respectively.
Top Performers
Several companies in the Stoxx Europe 600 index witnessed significant changes in their stock prices on Monday. Retail company Ocado Group PLC UK:OCDO experienced the largest increase, with its shares surging by 14.3%. Technology firm Sinch AB SE:SINCH and investing/securities company Julius Baer Gruppe AG CH:BAER also had a strong performance, gaining 13.1% and 8.4% respectively. Ubisoft Entertainment S.A. FR:UBI, a leisure/travel goods company, and business services company SGS S.A. CH:SGSN rounded out the top five, with their stocks increasing by 5.9% and 5.1% respectively.
Bottom Performers
On the other hand, business services company S4 Capital PLC UK:SFOR had the largest decrease among the Stoxx Europe 600 constituents, as its shares plummeted by 21.3% on Monday. Air transport firms Wizz Air Holdings PLC UK:WIZZ and Ryanair Holdings PLC IE:RYA also experienced a decline of 6.4% and 6.1% respectively. Koninklijke Philips N.V. NL:PHIA, a health care/life sciences company, and air transport business easyJet PLC UK:EZJ completed the list of the top five largest decreases, with their stocks declining by 5.8% and 4.4% respectively.
Currency and Commodity Movements
In the currency market, the British pound GBPUSD was down 0.23% against the dollar, while the euro EURUSD declined by 0.39%. Brent crude UK:BRN00, a type of oil, rose by 2.08% to reach $82.76.
Bond Yields
The yield on the 10-year gilt BX:TMBMKGB-10Y experienced a decrease of 1.89 basis points, falling to 4.255%. Similarly, the yield on the German 10-year bund BX:TMBMKDE-10Y declined by 4.120 basis points, reaching 2.42%.
