Blockchain game Axie Infinity has experienced an attack on its Discord server which led to a compromise on the MEE6 bot issuance of fake messages.
The network developers have eliminated the compromised bot from the main server and deleted the fake messages. The team has warned users through its official Twitter account that they may continue to see the fake messages until the Discord is restarted.
The MEE6 Discord support channel has denied any possibility of a hack, saying that their team of engineers has not seen unusual activities. The developers downplayed the compromise as no new phenomenon.
Reports are circulating that the hackers might have compromised the admin accounts, getting access to the alternative account through MEE6 despite the reports by the developers.
The news follows one of the biggest hacks on the Axie Infinity Ronin bridge, which led to a loss of more than $600 million. Security issues have impacted the confidence of blockchain users.
MEE6 is a discord bot for automating roles and messages used by various cryptocurrency projects. The attackers used the compromised bot to add permissions to a fake Jiho account and issue an illegitimate announcement about the mint.
