Theta Network is an online blockchain-enabled video-streaming platform. It was introduced in 2017 by Jieyi Long and Mitch Liu. This platform has its native crypto coin known as THETA. Here, members can get incentivized with the coins for sharing videos with other members using decentralized applications.
The network was initially based on ETH, but since 2019, it has been operating on its own blockchain. The members can be categorized into authenticators, guardians, and edge nodes. The first group consists of those who stake their coins to execute trades on the protocol. Guardians do the needful to make sure the integrity of the transaction blocks is maintained. Finally, there are edge nodes that share bandwidth and get incentives in terms of coins.
THETA follows a proof-of-stake consensus along with BFT governance. There are a small number of nodes that act as authenticators. Their objective is to produce blocks at a high pace. After performing the initial authentication, they transfer the trades to the guardians who re-check them and add them to the ledger.
