What is Polygon?

Polygon is a digital currency that allows users to build and link multiple networks with Ethereum. Launched in 2017, it was founded by three Indians, namely Sandeep Nailwal, Anurag Arjun, and Jaynti Kanani. It is based in Bangalore, India, and the British Virgin Islands. This technology merges individual blockchains and Ethereum into a multiple-chain environment. While offering high-end security, Polygon enhances transactional speed.

This network comprises stakeholders, customers, miners, and other members. The users interact with various ETH-based dApps using the MATIC sidechain of Polygon. The architecture consists of four distinct layers, including the Execution and Polygon Network layers. Although the networks are independent, they can still communicate with other networks.

The Networks layer transfers the orders to the Execution layer, where they get interpreted and executed. For a price, any network can verify the robustness of its chain using the Security layer, which is the third layer. The fourth layer, known as Ethereum, allows for the utilization of smart contracts for communication and staking.

The holders of MATIC tokens serve the same function as proof-of-work miners. They need to lock the coins to authenticate transactions. And they choose new block builders by using the locked coins for voting.
