Loopring is an open-source, audited, and non-custodial Ethereum-based blockchain that allows individuals to conduct permissionless payments and exchanges. It was introduced in 2017 by Daniel Wang, who is an ex-Google employee. The native token for this protocol is LRC.
The protocol this network uses is known as zkRollups where the orders are not settled on the ETH blockchain itself. Instead, it allows the calculations to be complete at a different location. This reduces the number of orders to be submitted to the ETH network by the exchange. Therefore, the trading expenses are reduced while the speed is enhanced nearly 1000 fold, with a speed of 2,025 tps.
However, Loopring provides Ethereum-level security throughout the network as it never relies on any external validators, consensus, or cryptoeconomic assumptions. Instead, the safety is guaranteed by Ethereum itself, as well as Zero Knowledge cryptography — only correct actions described by the protocol can happen.
