What is SuperRare?
SuperRare is a non-fungible token protocol built on Ethereum. Transactions on SuperRare are executed on-chain in a non-custodial system. The protocol’s 1.0 version permitted vetted artists to mint SuperRare NFTs in shared smart contracts. The subsequent version changed the set-up by bringing in web-scale curations, where artists can operate storefronts and autonomous minting contracts to offer their work to collectors directly.
RARE is the curation token powering SuperRare. There are 101,756,228 RARE tokens from a supply of 1 billion and a matching hard cap. The token is ERC20 standardized based on the Ethereum Network. In RARE tokenomics, 40% of the native tokens are allotted to the platform’s treasury, and 25.5% is for the SuperRare Labs. The rest are meant for investors, partners, and RAREdrops. In the new version, all the transaction fees are channeled to the community treasury.
SuperRare works as a decentralized autonomous organization having no executive leadership team. A governance council oversees the operations of the community treasury through a 4/7 multisig wallet. John Crain, Charles Crain, and Jonathan Perkins are the founders of SuperRare, a project introduced in 2017.
