What is STEPN?
STEPN is a Web3 lifestyle application that integrates games and social aspects. Users can purchase NFT sneakers in the project and earn game tokens by walking, jogging, or running outdoors. The protocol aims to use GameFi to promote healthier living, combat climate change, and open Web3 to mainstream adoption. STEPN is fashioned around the daily movements of people in a move-and-earn concept.
The game has three modes; Solo mode, Marathon Mode, and Background mode. The Solo mode enables users with NFT sneakers to earn tokens when moving around, while the marathon mode enrolls users in weekly and monthly marathons. With the Background mode, one can earn GST tokens as long as they have Sneakers in their apps.
There are 600 million circulating GMT tokens from a total supply of 6 billion and an equivalent hard cap. Users can lock their staked GMT for higher voting power, with 64 being the highest for a locking period of 3 years. 2% of the platform’s trading charges are set aside for the team, and at least 5% is reinvested back into the STEPN network.
The second token on the platform is the GST which is earned under the Solo and the Background mode. GST has an uncapped supply and is burned during shoe minting, repair, or unlocking socket.
STEPN was founded by Jerry Huang and Yawn Rong in 2021.
