What is Status?

Status is a decentralized messaging protocol on Ethereum built for dApps. The platform aims to offer access to Web3. Its features architecture comprises a messenger, Web3 browser, and a wallet. Status is supported on Android, iOS, Windows, and Linux devices. 

Status aims to increase the adoption of Ethereum-based decentralized applications. The protocol uses the Whisper protocol for peer-to-peer function and obfuscation of routing information. Status has created multiple decentralized applications that enable users to engage through Ethereum and SNT tokens. The protocol has a community-curated decentralized application where projects stake tokens and strengthen their position of influence in governance. 

SNT is a utility token in Status used to access the protocol’s features and governance. There are 3.47 billion circulating SNT tokens from an uncapped supply of 6,804,870,174. 44.1% of the initial token supply, 6,804,870,175, is set for ICO investors, 29% for development, 20% for status core developers, and 6.9% for Status Genesis Token holders. Status ICO was implemented in two dimensions. The network unveiled a pool of initial tokens called SGT for the early project adopters. The token pool made up 10% of the total native token supply. SGT tokens were later exchanged for SNT tokens during the initial coin offering. 

Status was founded in 2017 by Carl Bennetts and Jarrad Hope.
