What is Rocket Pool?
Rocket Pool is a staking protocol on Ethereum that enables users to stake tokens to node operators. Its smart contract supports Ethereum deposits and allocates them to the validator nodes. The nodes work under the Smart Node Network, a decentralized protocol of special nodes based in Rocket Pool’s Smart Node system. It also issues and tracks multiple coin pairs and manages transactions under the beacon chain.
Rocket Pool also maintains smart contract downtimes, which are blocked from admitting new users until they are restored. Three ERC-20 tokens power Rocket; rETH, RPL, and nETH. rETH is the staked and yield earning ether, while nETH is pegged and represents rewards, commissions, and deposits.
RPL is the native token at Rocket Pool. There are 10,279,742.40 circulating RPL tokens from an uncapped supply of 17,922,515. RPL’s initial supply was 18 million, out of which 54% went to investors, 31% to pre-mined rewards and airdrops, and the remainder to the project team. Rocket Pool plans to integrate on-chain governance in the future in the form of Rocket Pool DAO. The votes will be weighted based on the amount of the staked assets.
Rocket Pool was unveiled in 2016 by David Rugendyke.
