What is Power Ledger?

Power Ledger is a technology protocol for tracing, tracking, and trading renewable energy resources. The platform leverages the Ethereum blockchain for supporting its native POWR tokens and private blockchains for P2P transactions through Sparkz tokens. At the core of the protocol is a consortium blockchain called EcoChain that uses the proof-of-authority consensus algorithm. Power Ledger plans to transition to the more efficient proof-of-stake consensus to support more features. 

Power Ledger features include products that can be contracted separately, including Energy trading and traceability, flexibility trading, and environmental commodities trading. The trading and traceability features enable users to access peer-to-peer trading to enhance the efficient use of excess solar aside from subsidy. Distributed energy resource owners can offer their assets under flexibility trading. Power Ledger’s TraceX digital marketplace enables the trading of renewable energy credits under the third element of environmental commodities trading. 

There are currently 485,486,097.15 circulating POWR tokens from a total supply of 999,506,123 and a maximum supply of 1 billion. Power ledger launched a token sale in 2017 where 60% of the supply, equivalent to 600 million, was distributed through pre-sale, public sale, and bug bounty programs. From the initial token supply of 100 billion, 40.15% was allocated to founders and projects, 24.85% for pre-mined rewards and airdrops, and 35% to investors. Galaxy Digital, Fundamental Labs, Kosmos Capital, and Digichain Capital are some of the backers of Power Ledger.
