What is OriginTrail?

OriginTrail is a decentralized protocol that enables IT, service providers, to create blockchain-enabled data-sharing platforms. The protocol allows for data set exchange between organizational supply chains. OriginTrail supports Master Data, Visibility Data, and Transaction data through the GS1 standard. The network uses a Zero-Knowledge proof mechanism for data consensus. 

OriginTrail also features a decentralized peer-to-peer interface called OriginTrail Decentralized Network. ODN reduces the amount of data kept in the blockchain for efficiency while supporting transfers, services, and data retrieval. The network layer consists of nodes containing part of a decentralized database and keeps graphs of the data. ODN is developed in a distributed hash table based on Kademlia, for seamless routing in the protocol. 

TRAC is an ERC20 standardized token powering OriginTrail. The token is used to compensate the supply chain data providers and the consumers. It also incentivizes nodes to secure the network. TRAC is the native token powering OriginTrail. There are currently 364,314,242.14 circulating TRAC tokens from a total supply of 500,000,000 and a matching hard cap. 

Žiga Drev, Tomaž Levak, and Branimir Rakić are the founders of OriginTrail. The project’s whitepaper was released in 2017.
