What is Ocean Protocol?
Ocean is a blockchain platform for sharing data and services. The protocol enables individuals and enterprises to monetize their data via ERC-20 standards. Ocean is segmented into four parts: network, security, and data exchange. The providers are users offering data, data storage, and computing resources powered by Ocean’s native token. The second element is the marketplaces, which are environments built by participants for data discovery, transactions, and verification. Data commons offers interoperability.
Ocean platform has keepers that enhance the functions of the networks by running nodes, where compensation is made through block rewards. Data exchange is completed in three processes when the clients initiate an offering, are accepted, bought by data service providers, and verified by keepers.
There are currently 613,099,141 circulating OCEAN tokens from an equivalent total supply and a maximum of 1,410,000,000. The initial token supply was set at 690.9 million tokens. The scheduled distribution is 5% for the Ocean Protocol, 20% for Newton Circus and BigchainDB, 24% for investors, and 51% for Ocean block rewards. Ocean protocol was founded in 2017 by developers Bruce Pon, Cristina Cenuse, Daryl Arnold, Dimitri De Jonghe, Don Gossen, and Trent McConaghy.
