What is Metis?
Metis is a layer-2 scaling blockchain that uses Optimistic Rollup to support Web 3 applications. The technology enables users to deploy applications, process transactions, and store data on a layer above the main layer. While Metis achieves scalability through the second layer, the underlying layer provides security and consensus. Metis features an EVM-suited Metis Virtual Machine that supports smart contracts in an environment similar to that of Ethereum.
There are 2,918,125.86 circulating METIS tokens from a total supply of 5,410,001 and a hard cap of 10,000,000. In the initial token distribution, 47.7% of the tokens are set to be minted in a span of 10 years. METIS is used in activating Metis Virtual Machine, staking, and paying for gas fees.
METIS is also used to pay for services via the Decentralized Autonomous Companies based on the protocol. The token can be staked for a chance to participate in Ranger DAC. Under the DAC, users are assigned transactions to validate in return for rewards.
