What is Maple?

Maple Finance is a decentralized institutional capital marketplace on Ethereum. The platform offers undercollateralized loans for institutional borrowers and fixed earnings for the lenders. Maple enhances transparency through on-chain functions supported by Maple Tokens. Lenders seeking to earn yields must use USDC stablecoins from their Ethereum wallet, ether for settling gas fees, and MPL tokens.

Maple features liquidity pools managed by Pool Delegates, who are tasked with conducting due diligence on the borrowers and setting out the borrowing terms through smart contracts. Pool delegates must stake tokens, while the institutional borrowers are required to open Loan Vaults for collaterals and to receive the approved funds. Stakers and delegates deposit liquidity into the MPL/USDC pool on Balancer in return for Balancer Pool Tokens. The tokens are units of ownership of the pool staked into and revenue sharing.

MPL is the native token in Maple protocol used in governance, staking, and utility. The token holders can participate in governance or delegate their voting rights. There are currently 4,417,985.59 circulating MPL tokens from a total supply of 10 million and a matching hard cap. Maple’s initial token supply was 10 million. The token allocation at launch was 26% for seed investors, 25% for team and advisors, 14% for Maple treasury, 30% for liquidity mining, and the remaining 5% for public auction. Sidney Powell and Joe Flanagan are the co-founders of Maple. The platform was deployed in the Ethereum mainnet in 2021.
