What is Liquity USD?
Liquity USD is a stablecoin pegged to the US dollar that is used for offsetting loans on the Liquity protocol. Liquity USD is a decentralized blockchain that enables users to access 0% interest loans against ether, which acts as collateral. The protocol secures the borrowed assets through a Stability Pool that contains native LUSD tokens.
A borrower needs to open a Trove, deposit a minimum amount of ether, and access LUSD tokens up to a 110% collateral ratio. The pool serves as a source of liquidity for debt repayment in liquidating Troves. When a Trove is liquidated, the LUSD amount equivalent to the remaining debt of the Trove is destroyed from the Stability Pool balance to repay the amount.
The aspects to consider in redeeming the underlying ether is the face value, the prevailing base rate, and the ether to dollar ratio. There are 719,446,094.81 circulating LUSD tokens from an uncapped supply of 719,446,095. A user can earn liquidation gains and LQTY rewards by depositing LUSD into the Stability Pool. The second benefits are the revenues in LUSD from issuance fees and redemption charges paid in ether to the staker of LQTY.
Robert Lauko and Rick Pardoe are the co-founders of Liquity USD. The project launched in 2021.
