What is Juno?
Juno is a permissionless blockchain-based on Cosmos to support interoperable smart contracts. The network works as a decentralized and censorship-proof platform for developers to run smart contracts in multiple programming languages. Juno is developed on the Cosmos SDK and supported by the Inter Blockchain Communication protocol for cross-chain capability with networks based on the Cosmos ecosystem. The protocol runs on the Tendermint Byzantine fault tolerance consensus.
Juno is secured with the proof-of-stake consensus model consisting of validators and delegators. Juno’s use of CosmWasm supports WebAssembly virtual machines. WebAssembly powers software that originates from multiple programming languages.
There are 44,094,910.82 company-reported circulating $JUNO tokens from a total supply of 70,424,332 and a hard cap of 185,562,268. The token acts as collateral in smart contracts. $JUNO is also a utility token for decentralized applications deployed on Juno.
$JUNO supports token staking for enhanced security and protocol governance. Token stakers receive rewards in transaction charges and new tokens minted in inflation. Staked assets can be slashed if the validator underperforms or experiences downtime.
Juno was introduced in 2021 by anonymous developers.
