What is ICON?
ICON is a decentralized blockchain that enables autonomous networks operated on distinct governance to transact with each other without counterparties. The platform aims to link cryptocurrencies with public blockchains and connect the sector to conventional finance. ICON also features a smart contract platform, loop chain technology, built on Smart Contract On Reliable Environment. The platform is secured through the Byzantine Fault Tolerance Delegated proof-of-stake consensus algorithm.
ICON has five components: Community, C-Node, C-Rep, ICON Republic, and Citizen Node. The community consists of nodes that run compatible software, while the C-Node is the code run by each node component. C-Rep is a tier of community C-Nodes that contribute to the network and is entitled to transaction confirmation voting rights. The ICON Republic comprises various users who connect different network communities, while Citizen Node does not have network voting rights but operates decentralized applications.
ICON tokens are based on Nexus and are transferable across the blockchains linked to ICON’s BTP. There are 734,341,188.57 circulating ICX tokens from an uncapped total supply of 800,460,000.
