What is Harmony?

Harmony is a blockchain for decentralized applications development. The protocol is secured with the effective proof-of-stake consensus algorithm that enhances decentralization and promotes fair reward distribution among validators. EPoS enables simultaneous staking from multiple nodes for speed and scalability.

Harmony applies sharding in its infrastructure, storage, and transaction. The network also facilitates cross-shard transactions, where shards can communicate directly. An atomic lock system ensures that there is consistency in cross-shards settlements. A single shard comprises up to 250 nodes for maximum security via cryptographic randomness and systematic resharding. The Verifiable Random Function is key in randomized and unbiased sharding.  

ONE is the primary token powering Harmony. There are 11.69 billion circulating ONE tokens from a total supply of 13,339,391,372 and no available hard cap. ONE can be staked and also serves as an incentive to node operators in the network. The staking model supports delegation and reward compounding.
