What is Chromia?
Chromia is a blockchain for decentralized applications aimed at scalability, security, and enhanced user experience. The protocol is a layer-one blockchain with EVM compatibility and layer-2 support for BNB Chain. Chromia currently hosts applications in gaming, DeFi, and NFTs.
Chromia protocol has providers instead of miners. The providers own nodes that produce blocks. All the sidechains are anchored to a proof-of-work consensus. Every decentralized application in the network runs its sidechain linked to the main blockchain. Chromia uses a blockchain architecture called relational blockchain and a customized programming language, Rell. The network is secured through the PBFT-like consensus augmented by basing the network on other proof-of-work consensus algorithms.
There are currently 567,369,439 circulating CHR tokens from a total supply of 471,970,667 and a hard cap of 1 billion. The supply was minted at the project genesis, where ChromaWay founders and the project initially owned 70%. 20.94% was set aside for investors. From the ChromaWay pool, 25% went to select partners, while 45% were locked and scheduled to be released gradually. Chromia governance is more centralized where the decisions are made by ChromaWay in consultation with stakeholders. The protocol has plans underway to transition to a more decentralized governance model.
