What is Axie Infinity?
Axie Infinity is an online game that is based on the Ethereum network and allows you to earn crypto tokens called Axie Infinity Shards (AXS). The beta version of this game was launched in 2018 by Sky Mavis, a studio in Vietnam.
In this game, you need to purchase creatures called Axies similar to axolotls. In the beginning, you must buy a minimum of three. By using your pets to battle other players, you can win the in-game token, called Smooth Love Potion (SLP), breed and raise new Axies to gain the AXS tokens that you can later withdraw on the exchange. It is a unique play-to-earn model where you get incentives for playing the game.
Each creature represents an NFT and you can use it for conducting transactions outside the gaming environment. You can take part in open tournaments to win real money prizes. Sellers have to pay a 4.25% commission for each deal conducted through this protocol.
AXS follows a proof-of-work protocol and holders of the token have a say over game developments.
