What is Astroport?
Astroport is an open-source decentralized cryptocurrency exchange that is based on Terra. The platform uses an automated market maker smart contract in facilitating asset exchanges from liquidity pools. Astropol is created based on CosmWasm smart contracts, as Terra uses the Cosmos SDK.
ASTRO is the native token of Astroport, which facilitates governance and the payment of trading fees. There are currently 110,000,000 circulating ASTRO tokens from a total supply of 1 billion and a matching hard cap. The general emission ASTRO token supply is fixed with an increasing issuance. From the supply, 49% is allocated to the Astro Generators rewards, 30% to the project developers, 10% to the DAO treasury, while 11% is set for airdrops, lockdrops, and the bootstrapping pool.
Astroport features on-chain governance, which requires that ASTRO token holders stake the asset in the xASTRO pool to participate. The governance is weighted proportionately to the staked amount. xASTRO constantly generates additional ASTRO rewards. xASTRO can equally be staked to vxASTRO pool. vxASTRO cannot be transferred.
Astroport was launched in 2021 as a project of Astroport Joint Venture. The JV comprises Delphi Digital, Terraform Labs, We3, and Attic Lab.
