The New York City Mayor-elect Eric Adams says that schools should begin teaching cryptocurrencies as he sees them as the future of global payments.
Adams maintains that there is low awareness of blockchain technology and digital assets among young New York residents.
The crypto community is divided on the Mayor’s stance on teaching crypto in schools. While others see it as important and urgent, others say schools should first focus on traditional financial concepts.
The Democrat also said that he plans to promote the adoption of bitcoin and other digital assets as a form of payment among businesses, to keep the city as an innovation hub.
The incoming Mayor said on Wednesday that he wanted to launch a New York City crypto coin. Georgia is another state that has passed a bill for a financial literacy school program incorporating crypto education.
