What is Energy Web Token?
Energy Web is an open-source blockchain that is built for the energy sector. The protocol enables developers to create decentralized applications in the sector. Energy Web Foundation, an entity managing the project, has added a staked tech solution known as Energy Web Decentralized Operating System. The system lets users digitally control and manage their electrical systems.
At the core of the Energy Web is the EW Chain, which hosts decentralized identifiers, implements smart contracts, and offers verification of the state of data and events. Energy Web is secured through a proof-of-work consensus model, which uses a set of validators to mint new blocks. The system benefits grid operators, software developers, and energy sector vendors.
There are currently 30,062,138 circulating EWT tokens from a total supply of 48,638,535 and a maximum supply of 100 million. The Energy Web Foundation seeks to release the total tokens within ten years. Of the total supply, 14.09% was allocated to the Energy Web Team, 10% was allocated to the two founding entities, and a 4.06% to the community fund projected to increase in the next ten years. Energy Web Token was launched in 2019 as a project of Rocky Mountain Institute and Grid Singularity.
